Training Regions

Goldfields / Esperance

The Goldfields region includes Kalgoorlie and Esperance however, all current Training Posts are in Kalgoorlie/Boulder and provide a wide range of training opportunities from Aboriginal health, procedural hospital work and a varied general practice service for the local community.

Great Southern

The Great Southern region, often referred to as the ‘Great Outdoors’ begins just 220 kilometres south east of Perth. The Great Southern region boasts pristine waterways, fertile land, fresh produce and prize-winning wines with rugged coastline that provides unbeatable scenery and oceanside adventure, popular family beaches and quiet sheltered bays.

Kimberley

The Kimberley region in the far north of Western Australia is known for its stunning landscape and the opportunity to work in the areas of tropical medicine and Aboriginal Health.

Mid West

Centered around the port of Geraldton, the Mid West region is a major centre for mining, agriculture, fishing and farming.

Peel

The Peel region covers and area of 5,500 square kilometres, extending from 35 to 145 kilometres to the south of Perth, with a population of almost 88,000. The majority of the region’s economy is driven by mining, manufacturing, construction, retail and tourism

Pilbara

The Pilbara region boasts a large number of natural attractions including the Dampier archipelago and the stunning gorges of the Karijini National Park.

South West

The growing South West with its diverse economy, extensive mineral wealth, agricultural and viticulture industries, timber and forest products, retailing and tourism offers excellent long term job prospects for young GPs and your partners especially.

Wheatbelt

The Wheatbelt Region comprises an area of 154 862 square kilometres, more than twice the size of Tasmania. The region is home to over 72000 people, making it the third most populous region in the state.

East Metropolitan

The East Metropolitan Region covers that part of the metropolitan region that extends east from central Perth and runs as a band of residential area north and south. There are 15 Training Practices across the inner metropolitan suburbs of Bayswater, Mt Lawley, Nedlands, and Perth and the outer metropolitan areas of Ballajura, Lockridge, Kalamunda and Midland.

North Metropolitan

The North Metropolitan Region comprises the residential strip extending from central Perth to the northern beach suburbs of Quinns Rocks and Mindarie. There are 13 Training Practices across metropolitan and outer metropolitan areas of the region providing both GP Registrar and prevocational training placements.

South Metropolitan

The South Metropolitan Region comprises the areas covered by the Rockingham-Kwinana and Canning Divisions of General Practice and the Fremantle GP Network.
