Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of prior learning is available to shorten your training time if you have already spent one or more post intern years in an accredited hospital.

Applying for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

An application for RPL needs to be made before the end of your Basic GP term and should include a log book of educational activities, a short essay, assessments of your performance and professional references. You will also need to demonstrate satisfactory performance in General Practice areas and have discussed the pros and cons of applying for RPL with your Training Advisor.

It is also possible to choose to spend your training time developing other skills that may not be available in a hospital setting. This needs to be discussed with your Training Advisor and an application for Retrospective Credit made before the end of the Basic GP Term.

My particular placement is over six months and involved part time General Practice at Lamington Medical Group and part-time in Paediatrics at Kalgoorlie. I could not have got a better experience anywhere. The placement has the balance between GP and Hospital just right. This sort of experience is about being out of your comfort zone and being happy with that too.
