Obstetrics
Placement Overview
The obstetrics and gynaecology training program is for general practitioners who require further training in women's reproductive health. King Edward Memorial Hopsital co-ordinates two obstetric training streams : specialist O&G training and GP obstetric proceduralist training.
The GP obstetric proceduralist training consists of 6 months to prepare the candidate for the Basic DRANZCOG. GP obstetricians who wish to do advanced DRANZCOG or consolidate experience, do an additional 6 months. This incorporates caesarean section training ( advanced DRANZCOG) and working at obstetric junior registrar level.
The 6 month program will count towards the FARGP and the 12 month program meets the requirements for the FACRRM.

Obstetric Mentoring Project
This is a joint project between WAGPET, Rural Health West and King Edward Memorial Hospital, to support GP registrars who have obtained their DRANZCOG or DRANZCOG Advanced to consolidate their skills in practice and to enter practice as a GP Obstetrician. Since its inception in 2007 it has successfully supported a number of GP registrars into careers as GP obstetricians.
The project also aims to increase the availability of DRANZCOG training in regional WA, so registrars keen to undertake their training outside Perth are welcome to discuss options.
All registrars who are either currently undertaking DRANZCOG training or who are interested in intrapartum maternity care as part of their future GP career are encouraged to participate in this project. Contact the program manager, Viv Diggin, for more information.
