GP Registrar Workshop
GP Registrar Workshop

WAGPET delivers the General Practice training program throughout WA and provides prevocational training opportunities through the Community Residency Program and Prevocational GP Placement Program.

With regional representatives in 8 rural and 3 metropolitan regions, supported by staff at an office in Bentley, WAGPET delivers regionalised training programs which draw on the range of learning experiences available in each region. Trainees are supported to move to different regions to make the most of the training opportunities available.

Prevocational Training

Doctors employed by the Department of Health WA in metropolitan hospitals can choose to undertake a placement in community medicine or general practice as one or more of their hospital rotations. These rotations provide an opportunity to experience general practice and the management of patients in a community setting before deciding on a specialty area of training.

Community Residency Program: provides a combined hospital/community medicine experience in a range of specialty areas in rural and outer metropolitan locations

Prevocational GP Placement Program: provides a General Practice experience in an outer metropolitan or rural location

General Practice Training Program

WAGPET provides a comprehensive education and experiential training program for GP Registrars in WA. A structured education program, delivered centrally and regionally, provides Registrars with a clear learning pathway as they prepare for Fellowship with the RACGP and/or ACRRM. Education and supervision from experienced GP Supervisors in accredited Training Practice throughout WA ensures Registrars benefit from practical training available in a well supported environment.

My other colleagues who were involved in a WAGPET term were about to start the Community Residency Program which includes some hospital contact as well. I, on the other hand, was about to start a solely GP-based program.
