Practice Philosophy
Wirrake Maya was born from the efforts of Aboriginal people to establish a health service that addressed the unmet needs of Aboriginal people in the town of Port Hedland. It now provides a service to the greater Port Hedland and South Hedland area and cummunities at Strelley, Woodstock and Warralong.Wirraka Maya Health Service is an AGPAL accredited incorporated organisation established in 1993.
As an Aboriginal Health Service we;
•Are aware of and respect the diversity of Aboriginal culturethat we and the people we serve represent.
•Appreciate the role Aboriginal community members themselves play in caringfor the health of their families.
•Recognize the important contributions Aboriginal traditional healers make to the area of health and medicine.
•Strive to make the organisation more responsive to cultural rules and recognize the limits of culture.
•Value the skills and experience of Aborignial people and the strength they bring to the organisation.
Demographic Profile
Our last service activity report indicated that we saw approximately 14,172 clients: 5, 264 Aboriginal males and 8,644 females
