Background

The Northampton Doctor Surgery is part of the dynamic Wave ‘n’ Wattle Group owned by Dr Graeme Findlay. The Wave ‘n’ Wattle Group through its practices located here in Northampton, on the coast at Kalbarri and inland at Mullewa provides a comprehensive and wide range of health care.

Dr Findlay owner and principal GP rotates through all three practices providing excellent support to other GP’s both visiting and contracted within the group. Dr Findlay has had over 30 years experience in the Midwest and is a progressive GP committed to providing a positive environment for training GP registrars. He sees this as both an opportunity to inspire registrars to become leaders in primary health care in the rural health setting, and also an opportunity to question and build his own knowledge/skill base.

Scope of Practice

Northampton Doctor Surgery provides care in a supportive setting for clients of all ages from antenatal to aged care, with excellent training opportunities. We are essentially a paperless practice using Medical Director and PracSoft software.

We have a full time practice nurse to assist with management of chronic disease, diabetes, asthma, women’s health and phlebotomy. We also have a visiting Mental Health, Physiotherapy, Optometrist and Aboriginal Outreach service.

There is opportunity to gain experience in the areas of minor procedures under local anaesthetic (excisions, suturing), plastering, Implanon insertion/removal, Cryotherapy, Aged Care (visiting service at the 8 bed Brookview Lodge), Chronic Disease Management, ECG’s, and Spirometry. The GP’s at the surgery also provide emergency care cover for the Northampton Health Service Accident & Emergency Department.

There is also scope for increasing the experience gained at the practice by visiting our Mullewa and Kalbarri Practices. Mullewa is located inland form Northampton and services a largely farming & aboriginal population. Kalbarri is a coastal town approximately 100km north of Northampton and has a large tourist population.
