Services
Kununurra District Hospital employs procedural GPs (District Medical Officers) to provide acute 24 hr emergency care, inpatient care, general practice clinics, procedural (Anaesthetics & Obstetrics including Caeserean Section), & remote clinic services to Kununurra and surrounding communities. This is supported by visiting specialists from the Kimberley region and Perth.
Allied health services (Physiotherapy, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy) are provided at the hospital along with community allied health provided by Boab Health (Dietician, Podiatry, Psychology, Diabetes Education)
Other medical services in town include a private GP practice and an Aboriginal Medical Service.
Work at the hospital is diverse, interesting and well supported by DMOs.
Demographics & Geography
Kununurra's population is approx 7000, (increasing 3 fold during tourist season). There is a large Aboriginal population; mainly Miriuwung Gajerrong people. Main industries are Agriculture (Ord Irrigation scheme), Tourism (Ord River, Lake Argyle, El Questro,Purnululu) and mining (diamonds, lead, nickel, gold)
It is 3213km from Perth, 830km from Darwin & approx 1100km to Broome by road.
Kununurra is undergoing growth with recent infrastructure development. It is a vibrant & diverse community close to many areas of spectacular natural beauty.
