Yura Yungi medical service is an ideal placement for an adventurous subsequent term GP registrar who wants to try out remote area Aboriginal health. Depending on the supervision available this placement could also be considered for an experienced advanced term Registrar. Excellent outdoors opportunities and working in a town with 5 other doctors who work closely together (Halls Creek Hospital employs three doctors and in-patient load is shared between all doctors in the town). Support provided from KAMSC in Broome for all GP Registrars in the region. Subsequent GP Registrars are included in this support and GP Registrars from Halls Creek are provided with time off to attend training in Broome several times during a six month term.
Philosophy/Ethos
An Aboriginal Community Controlled Health service committed to improving Aboriginal health and increasing Aboriginal involvement in the provision of health care for Aboriginal people.
Demography of Patients
Yura Yungi is the only primary care service in Halls Creek and provides a service to Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal patients for the town of Halls Creek and a number of surrounding communities including the remote community of Ringer’s Soak.
