Role of the Regional GP Registrar Liaison Officer

Responsibilities of the Regional Advisory Committee

The members of the RAC will undertake the following activities to support the regional program.

  1. Seek and receive offers from regional GP Supervisors and Educators who wish to conduct an education session in the region.
  2. Seek and receive advice from the Education Consultant and WAGPET Manager on domains of the curriculum, past evaluation and other input, to develop the regional education program.
  3. Seek and receive ideas from anyone in the regional area regarding innovative approaches to the delivery of education in the region and/or support of GP Registrars, GP Supervisors and Training Practices.
  4. Decide which ideas will be funded through WAGPET Innovations Funding grant.
  5. Represent the region at WAGPET placement information events.
  6. Attend the annual Regional Advisory Committee Workshop.

Objectives of the Regional GP Registrar Liaison Officer

An Registrar Liasion Officer is selected from the region within which they are currently working and is a formal member of the Regional Advisory Committee which supports the WAGPET GP Training Program. These regions are:

  • Perth and Outer Metropolitan North
  • Perth and Outer Metropolitan South
  • Perth and Outer Metropolitan East
  • Kimberely
  • Pilbara
  • Central Wheatbelt
  • Midwest
  • Goldfields
  • Peel
  • Southwest
  • Great Southern.

Through the GP Registrar Forum, the RLOs represent the interests of GP registrars and prevocational doctors training in their regions. The GP Registrar Forum acts as a communication conduit for WAGPET Registrars and prevocational doctors enrolled in WAGPET training programs.

Responsibilities of the Regional GP Registrar Liaison Officer

An RLO is expected to:

2.1                 

Attend the scheduled GP Registrar Forum meetings, be they face to face or via teleconference as determined by the Forum on a yearly basis (2 to 3 meetings per semester).

2.2                 

Assist with the development of regional education programs, this is via canvassing the registrars in the region to determine their priority educational needs and liaising with the RAC members to find speakers who are able to present at regional education days.

2.3                 

Participate in Regional Advisory Committee meetings as they are held in their area and work with the Regional Training Advisor, Supervisor Liasion Officer and WAGPET staff to support WAGPET trainees in their regional area. This can be done by orgainsing social events, circulating an email contact list and being available to respond to questions.

2.4                 

Assist the positive promotion of WAGPET training programs to GP registrars or prevocational doctors as required.

2.5                 

Proactively recruit own replacement on the RAC.

2.6                 

Provide a hand-over to the incoming RLO regarding the registrars and prevocational doctors in the region, planned educational events and the contact details and operation of the RAC.

2.7                 

Assist registrars in their region to form study groups by acting as a central contact point.

2.8                 

Act as an advocate for WAGPET trainees in relation to: terms and conditions during training placements including employment conditions, supervision, support and education; training requirements.
