About Dedicated Posts

A dedicated General Practice placement is designed to provide you with a positive experience to help you make an informed decision about General Practice as a career.

In a Dedicated Placement you will rotate out of your Primary Allocation Centre for a minimum of 10 or 11 weeks and work full time in general practice. During the placement you will have the opportunity to:

  • consult with patients in a primary care setting and make autonomous decisions (prescribing medication, making referrals, ordering pathology and radiology services, etc) with the support of an experienced GP Supervisor in a high quality teaching environment
  • enhance your clinical decision-making skills
  • develop basic procedural skills

During your placement you will receive education and support from experienced clinical supervisors.  At the same time, you will have the opportunity to undertake a wide variety of responsibilities such as managing your own patients; ordering tests, prescribing, billing, developing clinical management plans and providing continuity of care across primary and secondary settings.
