GP Supervisor Representation
GP Supervisor Representation in Western Australia
WAGPET has a GP Supervisor Forum on which each region is represented by their GP Supervisor Liaison Officer. One of the Director positions on the WAGPET Board is a GP Supervisor representative and this Board member attends all meetings of the GP Supervisor Forum as do the Manager, Policy and Projects, the Education Consultant for Program Support and the Operations Manager.
The GP Supervisor Forum builds on the work done by the original members of the GP Supervisor Forum which was established in 2004 and comprised six interested and committed WAGPET GP Supervisors.
The WAGPET GP Supervisor Forum meets face-to-face at least twice a year with a further three meetings per year via teleconference. The minutes of the GP Supervisor Forum can be found on the GP Supervisor section of the WAGPET elearning, the logon section of this website.
GP Supervisor issues should be brought to the attention of the regional GP Supervisor Liaison Officer so that these can be discussed at the GP Supervisor Forum and recommendations made to WAGPET management and Board. Contact details for your regional representative can be found in the Regional Support section of this website.
A member of the GP Supervisor Forum represents Western Australia at the national GPSLO Network and GPSA meetings.
National Representation for GP Supervisors
Two national organisations provide representation for GP Supervisors, the independent GP Supervisor Association (GPSA) and the GPET funded GP Supervisor Liaison Officers Network (GPSLO Network).
General Practice Supervisor Association (GPSA)
The GP Supervisors Association was formed in 1998 in response to the proposed changes to the GP training program and the need to review the remuneration and employment conditions of GP Registrars.
The aim of the GPSA is to represent the interests of GP Supervisors in the provision of vocational training and education, provide a legal entity for negotiating with Government and other interested parties (i.e. renegotiation of the National Minimum Terms and Conditions) as well as ensuring national standards of quality training through sharing of experience and expertise.
GP Supervisor Liaison Officers (GPSLO) Network
The GPSLO Network provides support for regional GPSLOs nationally. The Network was formed in March 2003 following a national meeting of GPSLOs in Melbourne. The GPSLO Network receives funding from GPET for secretarial support, a list server for GP Supervisors, teleconferences and meetings. The GPSLO Network acts as a forum for GP Supervisor Liaison Officer issues and has regular national meetings.
