What is an Accredited Training Post?

GP Registrars must work in accredited Training Practices and Posts during their involvement with the AGPT.  Training Practices are accredited by either or both the RACGP and ACRRM depending on their location and the range of experience they can offer the GP Registrar.

Accreditation

Accreditation of a Practice for the AGPT indicates that the GP Supervisor and the Training Practice are able and willing to provide GP Registrars with the level of supervision, teaching and educational experience to support their progress through the GP training program.  The GP Supervisor must be an experienced GP who is able to mentor the GP Registrar during their time in the Training Practice.

Once WAGPET has received an application form from a potential Practice, the information will be reviewed by the WAGPET Operations Manager and Education Consultants before proceeding to the College accreditation process. This review may be paper based or involve a practice visit by WAGPET.

RACGP Accreditation

Practices accredited with the RACGP must meet the Standards set out in the RACGP Standards for Trainers and Training Practices. Practices must identify a Principle GP Supervisor and may also nominate additional GP Supervisors for the Practice.

The Practice submits an Application for Initial Accreditation to WAGPET who will endorse the application and submit this to the RACGP. The RACGP will arrange for an accreditation visit to be conducted. Accreditation is for three years after which the practice will need to apply for reaccreditation.

GP Supervisors should be aware that they are not able to transfer accreditation from one practice to another. If a GP Supervisor moves to a new practice, that practice will need to apply for accreditation.

ACRRM Accreditation

Practices applying for accreditation with ACRRM must complete the ACRRM application form and send this to WAGPET who will forward the documentation to ACRRM. The Practice application is reviewed by ACRRM and the Practice may receive provisional accreditation with ACRRM, pending a site visit by an ACRRM accreditor.

WAGPET will arrange for an ACRRM accreditation visit to be conducted. The report from this visit is submitted to ACRRM for consideration by the ACRRM Board who will determine if full accreditation will be granted.

Financial support

Training Practices receive financial support for hosting a GP Registrar.  An accommodation subsidy for GP Registrars in rural Training Practices is also available.

SUPERVISOR PROFILE
Supervisor Testimonial: Dr Nadine Perlen Dr Nadine Perlen

I have been involved in GP training at several levels over the years. I had great role models as trainers when I was doing my training and always hoped to be able to contribute back to the profession in that way. When I came to Perth in 1995 I was looking for a practice that was involved in teaching and was fortunate to be directed to Lockridge General Practice.
