First Wave Scholarship Recipients

WAGPET sponsorship ensured WA's inclusion in the pilot GPSN Schwartz First Wave Scholarship Program this year.  The Scholarship, initially tagged only for Victoria, offered 10 positions to UWA students in their first or second year of medical studies.

Participation in the Program offers a unique opportunity to experience General Practice under the supervision of a dedicated and experienced GP at a practice with proven commitment to education and training.  It is expected that participation in this program will provide students with a dynamic introduction to outstanding General Practice early in their studies to help shape their decision making about pursuing General Practice as a career.

Participants will attend a mandatory workshop in Melbourne to provide them with a comprehensive overview of General Practice and its role in the wider medical landscape.  They will then undertake six sessions in a WA practice with their GP Supervisor and a GP Registrar as role models.  During their program they will participate in a WAGPET education workshop as an introduction to the quality of education and training they can expect from WAGPET Prevocational Programs and the GP Training Program later in their careers.
