Welcome from the Chair 2012

Welcome all to a year that is already well and truly off to a flying start!
With increased numbers we have been very pleased with how smoothly orientation week went for our new registrars and PGPPP doctors. It will be a pleasure to watch as their careers progress.
The Board has set a busy agenda for itself over this coming year. Later this month we have our strategic planning day as we plan and anticipate how the medical world will look over the next three years and beyond. A lot of preparation is going into this work, and it cannot be underestimated just how important anticipation and positioning is for our future.
The Board is also pleased to be continuing direct engagement with our key stakeholders. We are greatly looking forward to our upcoming meeting with the National Rural Faculty of the RACGP at our next Board meeting and meeting with the Aboriginal Health Council of Western Australia and Rural Health West later this year.
There has been one important change with the delivery of PGPPP in Western Australia. GPET have decided that from 2013 there will only be one provider in WA and that WAGPET will deliver this program across the state. Significant work has commenced and will continue to do so to ensure there is a smooth transition next year. We would like to thank the School of Primary, Aboriginal and Rural Health Care (SPARHC) for the very good work they have put in the development and delivery of this excellent program.
On a final note, as Chair, I will be attending the upcoming Regional Advisory Committee workshop day to open and close proceedings and look forward to meeting with and hearing from our regional teams.
We would like to wish everyone a very prosperous and enjoyable year.

Dr Damien Zilm
