Dr James Turner with the Southern Right Males

WAGPET Is delighted to welcome Dr James Turner as the 2012 Chair of the Supervisor Advisory Group, replacing Dr Willie Walker who has put in an excellent innings over the past two years investing his time, effort and passion in the work of the Group.

James comes to this position with excellent ‘pedigree’ having been a WAGPET registrar in a past life, as well as having previously held the Regional Advisory Committee (RAC) positions of Registrar Liaison Officer and Regional Training Advisor for his region.  He is currently Supervisor Liaison Officer in the Great Southern.

As with many of our dynamic doctors in rural areas, James wears many hats.  He joined Pioneer Health in Albany in 2007 and is a Practice Principal.  As well as his involvement in GP training, he has taken a particular interest in supervising our PGPPP doctors, medical interns in the Albany Hospital and 5th and 6th year medical students.  Enjoying the variety of medicine in the surgery as well as looking after hospital patients, he has taken up other positions in the region and is a member and past-Chair of Albany Regional Hospital Medical Advisory Committee.  James is well-known in the Great Southern for his special medical interests in skin cancer medicine and dermatology, children's health, Aboriginal health and chronic disease management. Outside medicine, James enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters.  He is also famous for running a male acapella choir known as the “Southern Right Males” and we couldn’t resist including a photo of the group here.
