General Practice a Popular Choice for Junior Doctors at PMCWA Medical Careers Expo

WAGPET was pleased to be part of the PMCWA Medical Careers Expo on 27 March, talking with Medical Students, Interns, Residents and Overseas Trained Doctors about GP training opportunities in WA.

The annual Expo, this year held at the Burswood on Swan, attracted a record crowd of 400 – 450 attendees seeking information on medical careers and services.

As part of the GP Stakeholder Group, WAGPET was kept busy fielding questions and passing out information packs at the General Practice booth and presenting to small groups at the Community Medicine cafe-style sessions about prevocational and vocational training opportunities.

WAGPET is encouraged by the high level of interest from attendees for rural placements and combining training with other areas like Obstetrics, Anaesthetics and Emergency, and a heightened interest in Aboriginal health.

The GP Stakeholder Group members includes the Australian Medical Association of WA, Aboriginal Health Council of WA, Rural Health West, Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine, Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, WAGPET, WA General Practice Network & WA Country Health Service.
